The Internally Driven Leader

Several years ago, I was asked to design a new M.B.A. course on leadership, vision, and change. In doing so, I took an unusual approach. Half of the class sessions would be devoted to case studies. The cases were written on several recent dramatic organizational transformations. The leader of each transformation was invited to make a presentation. The other half of the class sessions would be based on movies that depicted the efforts of transformational leaders to effect organizational change. The students would view the movies at home and come to class prepared to discuss them as cases of change.
