The Fear of Change

I once worked with a top management team of a very large company. I came to know the individuals very well. They were bright, honest, sincere, and hardworking. In an effort to improve their organization, they had decided to send all the senior people to a well-known seminar on quality. These executives, upon returning from the enlightening seminar, decided to implement the ideas in their organization. Together they developed a reasonable plan and initiated the change effort.

A short time later, while we were doing some strategic planning, the team made numerous references to the new quality philosophy. They were making assumptions that quality, morale, productivity, and profit would all improve because of the new philosophy. ...
