The Windows 2000 Event Log Defined

The Windows 2000 Event Log is the system by which Windows 2000 tracks events that happen on the server. The event log tracks three types of events: security events, system events, and application events. The last category, application events, is what this chapter focuses on. The application event log is designed for notifications concerning non–system-level applications on the server. Most often, these are custom applications from third-party vendors.
