Trace Facility Enhancements

The DB2 trace facility is used to capture events, dump trace data to a file, and format the data into a readable form. The trace facility can be invoked by issuing the db2trc command. The facility has been significantly improved for v8.

Prior to v8, enabling a trace could severely impact DB2's performance. This made using the facility in many production environments—or for extended periods of time—impractical. More complex problems could, in certain cases, be difficult to diagnose, because the facility's performance impact had the potential to alter a problem's behavior. Moreover, the trace buffer often proved to be too small and filled up too quickly.
