Dynamic LPAR Support for AIX5.2B

Dynamic LPAR (DLPAR) capabilities are starting to appear in today's operating and hardware systems; for example, AIX v5.2B running on a POWER4-based pSeries system, such as Regatta p690. LPARs makes it possible to run multiple, independent operating system images on a single server. Using DLPAR, you can dynamically add or remove resources (memory and CPUs) from active partitions without the need to reboot the machine.

When using DLPARs for new resource assignments, a script must be run to handle the:

  • removal of resources such as CPU and memory, while ensuring that the DB2 UDB server can continue to operate without crashing.
