Throttling Utilities

An ongoing challenge faced by DBAs has been to minimize the performance impact of online utilities on production workloads, while ensuring that system resources are maximally utilized when the workloads diminish.

The throttling utilities enhancement introduced in DB2 UDB v8 is designed to let you run DB2 utilities aggressively when the workload is light and run them conservatively when the workload is heavy. This eliminates the need to schedule large utility runs at off-peak hours, or to plan for actual down time.
