Chapter 13. Container Operations

DB2 UDB v8 introduces three important new database managed space (DMS) container operations, which feature the ability to do the following:

  • Drop containers from a table space

  • Reduce the size of containers in a table space

  • Add new containers to a table space without rebalancing

These operations are accessible through enhancements to the ALTER TABLESPACE statement (see Figure 13.1).
