Distributed Catalog Cache

DB2 UDB v7.2 provides DBAs with a catalog cache that can be leveraged to provide quicker access to a subset of the information stored in SYSTABLES. The information that was cached in DB2 UDB v7.2 was very limited. In DB2 UDB v7.2, there were also issues associated with the catalog cache that were somewhat problematic.

First, when the catalog cache became full and no other information could be purged from it, overflow data from this cache had to be allocated from private memory. Second, when memory allocations occur from private memory, the information is transient and will soon be discarded.
