Chapter 19. DB2 Spatial Extender

DB2 Spatial Extender is used to store and manage geographical features in a database. A geographical feature can be an object, an area, or an event at a location—for example, a longitude and latitude of a city or points within a city where certain buildings are located. Spatial Extender leverages the power of SQL to retrieve geographical information about the relation between geographical features. For example, it can be used to find the proximity of two locations or to check whether or not a location is within a certain boundary.
