The Nikon 1 cameras were the first interchangeable lens mainstream models introduced by Nikon with an all-new lens mount since 1959. While the latest Nikon digital SLRs can use most of the millions of lenses available for the original F-mount, the Nikon V1 provides full functionality only with lenses designed especially for it. Although Nikon offers an F-mount adapter (which wasn’t available for testing when this book was written), and you can bet third-party accessory manufacturers will come up with adapters to allow use of Nikon, Canon, Sony, and other lenses, you’re better off with optics created specifically for the CX format.
