I learned the enormous scope of what we call fine arts in college, where, while I was earning my Bachelor of Arts degree, I studied shoulder-to-shoulder with those aspiring to careers involving painting, sculpture, music, dance, theatre, architecture, photography, and journalism. About the only thing we all had in common was that our efforts were all focused on aesthetics and concepts rather than utility.

When all is said and done, photography, like those other arts mentioned, is rather useless (compared to, say, auto mechanics) except for the pleasure it gives us in creating or viewing it.
