What gear gets you close? A surprise for many photographers is that it’s not just macro lenses! You don’t have to wait until you can afford a macro lens in order to get outstanding macro photos. In fact, doing all of your macro photography with a macro lens can limit you from getting the best shots up close. Using different gear often means opportunities to get unique and special images (Figure 5.1).

The point is also about working with what you have. Your chance to shoot up close is more important than some arbitrary lens that the folks at the camera club say you have to have.
