Getting Started with Flash

The Canon EOS M’s 90EX flash is a handy accessory. The next sections explain how to use the 90EX flash in the various Basic Zone and Creative Zone modes.

Basic Zone Flash

If you’re using a dedicated Canon Speedlite other than the 90EX, when the EOS M is set to one of the Basic Zone modes (except for HDR Backlight Control), plus Movie mode, the flash will fire when needed (if attached and powered up) to provide extra illumination in low-light situations, or when your subject matter is backlit and could benefit from some fill flash. With the Speedlite 90EX, the flash will fire as required in Scene Intelligent Auto, Creative Auto, Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, Night Portrait, and Close-Up modes, but not in Landscape, ...
