7Movie Making with Your Canon PowerShot G1 X

Canon has considerably beefed up the movie-making capabilities of the PowerShot G1 X, compared to the fairly rudimentary video features of its predecessors, including “little brother” PowerShot G12. The G1 X can record 1920 × 1080–pixel (Full HD) movies at 24 frames per second, 1280 × 720–pixel (Standard HD) movies at 30 fps, and 640 × 480–pixel (VGA-format) movies at 30 fps.

In addition, it can capture iFrame movies, an Apple-developed simplified movie format with an HDTV-like 16:9 aspect ratio of 960 × 540 pixels at 30 fps. Movies using the G1 X’s Miniature Effect processing can be captured at 6, 3, and 1.5 fps, which produces a speeded-up playback that works well with “miniaturized” clips. Finally, ...
