The data resource must be oriented toward the business.
A reasonable orientation is a focus on the long term objective to meet the current and future business information demand, rather than on the short term objective to meet current needs. However, the situation in most organizations today is a short term focus on current needs to the detriment of long term objectives. That short term focus results in the rapidly increasing quantities of disparate data.
