Give Thanks for Hard Times

Failure is unsettling and, in that sense, is the stick (and not the carrot). But a crisis can also be an unfreezing process that by itself creates change. In that sense it is also opportunity.

Organizations often overlook the potential for good in the urgency created by failure. When expensive disappointments create a sense of crisis, the urgency can be harnessed as a significant lever for change.

In truth, it’s usually failure, disappointment, and frustration that motivate people to reexamine that which they’ve taken for granted. It’s rare to find big change without significant bad news.
