9. Putting It All Together: What Did We Learn?

I once had a boss, the general manager of the New Jersey Devils. He had a sign above the Devils’ locker room. It said simply, “Good isn’t good enough, when better is expected.”

That always stuck with me. For whatever reason, in life, we tend to do a lot of work via the creed of “it’ll get by.” I never truly understood that, even if I’ve done it, too, from time to time. But no matter what the cause (I’m tired, I got to bed late, I have to leave early, my keyboard is broken, my desk chair hurts, my hairline is receding...), we still seem to do it.
