Susan Hart compares and contrasts two approaches to support teaching: one which focuses on improving the learning of individual pupils who experience difficulties and one which attempts to adapt the curriculum so as to enhance the learning of all pupils. These two approaches entail different rationales, practices and criteria of success. She argues against the individual approach on the grounds that it retains the segregation of pupils with learning difficulties which support teaching was intended to diminish.
