Endnotes

1 In this study, offshoring refers to the manufacturing of a physical product by a firm in a country other than that firm’s home country. Nearshoring involves moving manufacturing to a location in the same general region as their home country. For example, for firms in the United States, that would include Canada and Mexico. Reshoring involves moving manufacturing back to the company’s home country, where the headquarters for that business is located. For this research, global sourcing, defined as sourcing a product from a firm that is located in a country other than that firm’s home country, is not considered as part of offshoring.
