Information Technology has continued an interesting transition over the past 15 to 20 years. While the direction in the 1980s and 1990s was away from centralized mainframe systems toward decentralized personal computing, IT in the 2000s has moved back toward a centralized environment, with a web browser replacing the dumb terminal of days gone by. Many systems that were converted to PC-based DOS and Windows applications 20 years ago are now being converted, once again, to a centralized web-based environment.
