Usually you develop confidence in response to the skills you acquire. For example, when you first learn to drive with an instructor or parent, you drive slowly and hesitantly because you don’t yet have a feeling for the dimensions of the vehicle, and therefore you don’t know what you can and can’t do with it. But after a few lessons you almost feel that the car’s exterior is an extension of yourself, and you become more confident with your speed and steering.
