The Problem with Creativity

The word creativity suffers from a range of unhelpfully broad meanings. In popular culture it has come to mean an unwieldy mixture of ideas that include inventive pursuits, aspirational feelings, and problem-solving methods. Within the university setting, each field tends to understand creativity within their own paradigms of language and assessment and for their own objectives. Psychological and sociological studies tend to frame creativity within a set of cause-and-effect relationships, while the business world places a heavy emphasis on productive solutions and applications.
