Portraiture and photography of people in general are probably the most important applications for creative flash techniques. You can’t dictate the weather, and it is hard to capture a flattering look in the rain or when the sun is high in the sky. Continuous light is fine for this type of work in a studio, but a battery-powered flash—with its low weight, compact size, and high output—is the way to go on location.
