Detachment and Unconditional Positive Regard

Applying the tool of detachment continues to be the hardest skill I practice each day and the hardest skill for leaders to accept and to commit to practice. This single attribute and process of the Accountability Model faces greater resistance than all others. This is because we are trained from very early on that there is right and wrong, good and bad, nice people and not nice people. We are conditioned as leaders to judge everything. This trains us to be attached to the outcomes that our direct reports provide to the team and to us personally. We have expectations and believe we have a right to have expectations.
