II.7. Excuse Number Six: I Don't Have a Car

You won't get any sympathy here. Don't forget, when I started my first two businesses, I was too young to drive. My only mode of transportation was a bicycle, my feet, the bus, or my parents. I was reminded of this on a recent business trip to Belize, a poor country in the Western Caribbean. Our tour guide commented that most Belizeans used BMWs. There was a long pause as we looked around. Belize is one of the poorest countries in this half of the world. Then she laughed and added that in Belize, BMW means "Better Me Walking."

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this excuse, because it's really a nonissue. I know, if you don't have wheels, it's a biggie to you. But get real. Repara a few pages back I described a whole business that requires no transportation whatsoever: selling on eBay. Repara Kyle McDonald? He got into an actual house of his own, with a business he ran from his apartment. In any regular eBay type of business, you can order shipping tubes for free from the post office, print your own labels and postage right from home, and do all of your dealings by e-mail and phone. And I showed you other businesses that don't require a car, or even a computer.
