V.2. Don't Wait until You're Old, or Even Grown Up

I really believe that all of my successes after starting Flame Software when I was 12 were partially the result of having seen that I could do it. In the beginning, we all have to start out on faith. But after awhile, we have more confidence that things will work out. That we'll know where to get the information and whatever else we need. And most of all, we trust that we will do whatever it takes, no matter what.

These are all real good reasons to start young, because the longer you wait, the harder it gets. What gets harder? Taking chances, doing risky things, going out on your own.

Unfortunately, everything around us says, "Wait until you finish school... get a degree ... had 5 or 10 years of experience under your belt. Wait until...".

The beauty of starting young is that you don't really know you can fail, and even if you do, it's not the end of the world. I mean, do you think those skateboarding kids worry a lot about surviving a head injury if they slip on a flip? No way! Because when we're young, we're indestructible. Stupid sometimes, because we just assume we won't fall. And if we do fall, we won't be hurt too bad. And if we are hurt, we figure we'll heal fast and do it again.

It's the same with a business. We still have our life ahead of us to try again, and again, however many times it takes to succeed. Besides, people in their teens and early twenties don't have that much to lose. We haven't bought houses or accumulated ...
