Simulated rain outdoors can present problems, the principal one being that of supply. Few locations have conveniently placed hydrants, and even when water tankers are brought to the site these may have to be re-filled during the shoot.

Water tankers are heavy vehicles and sink easily into soft ground. Locations should be chosen where the tankers have ease of access and hardstanding.

The nearer to the camera it can be deployed, the more effective simulated rain will look; in wide landscapes or long shots it is quite possible for a rainfall to pass literally unseen. If a foreground object can be positioned where it will drip with water the effect will be enhanced.
