There's an old saying in biology: “Ontogeny Recapitulates Phylogeny.”^[1] This is really more of a myth, but what it means is that the developing embryo of an organism roughly replays it's own evolutionary history. The human embryo, for instance, goes through successive stages that closely resemble fish, reptiles, small mammals, then man.
