The cardinal principle that guides the ALBA is the solidarity of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, which is based on the thought of Bolívar, Martí, Sucre, O'Higgins, San Martín, Hidalgo, Petión, Morazán, Sandino and many other heroes, without selfish nationalisms or restrictive national policies that deny the objective to build a Great Nation in Latin America, as dreamt of by the heroes of our emancipating battles.
