Chapter 9: Investing or Trading?

There are two ways to make money in the stock market: you can invest or you can trade. The figures in the first chapter should have given the potential investor all the statistics he or she would ever need to justify his or her long-term participation in the stock market. The position is not quite as clear-cut for trading.

That said, I think trading is an activity that should in most cases be added to the investor’s repertoire. At the very least, as I will go on to explain in this chapter, I believe that the investor today should think less in terms of just “buy and hold” and more in terms of “buy, build, reduce and sell”.
