MAKING A GOATEE

In the University of Central Florida production of Pippin, Mark Brotherton played double roles: King Charles and Grandma Bertha. The beard made a distinctive difference between these two roles. When the actor wore the beard, he portrayed a powerful king (Figure 4-1); beardless, he was a beautiful and kind grandmother.

  Fine flesh-toned ventilating lace

  Ventilating needle

  Beard block

  Poly stuffing or cotton balls

  Narrow twill tape
