Fort Huachuca U.S. Army Garrison
Fort Huachuca is an Army installation located southeast of Tucson, Arizona. Its location made it ideal to monitor Apache comings and goings through the San Pedro Mountains and as a staging point for General Pershing’s punitive mission into Mexico. In this role, it was home to some of the famous Buffalo Soldiers who played a significant role in “winning the West.”
Today, the installation houses the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence School and the troops of a Signal Corps Brigade. The “garrison” organization runs the support and sustainment functions of the installation. It is typically led by a colonel, although most of the garrison staff is civilian.
