The age-old challenges of knowledge have consistently been the following:

  • How to encourage experts (those who possess knowledge) to provide their knowledge

  • How to store knowledge so that it can be accessed easily

  • How to encourage nonexperts to accept knowledge

At least the second of these three challenges seems to edge toward a solution. Google is increasingly talking about a Star Trek–type of search engine. Rather than keying in search words and receiving links to other web sites, we will interact with the search engine like Captain Kirk on starship Enterprise.
