The Human Brain Project is one of several similar ambitious endeavors to simulate a human brain sometime in the 2020s. The first challenge of the project is to collect, categorize, and link the millions of research papers published on the mammalian and human brains.

The next challenge will be bringing together all the different disciplines that are required to understand what it takes to build an artificial brain. The team will encompass computer scientists, operating system developers, biologists, neurolinguists, psychologists, and a host of other experts.

If all goes well and the network of thousands of experts can work together effectively, we are supposed to see an artificial cat brain around 2019.
