Script Terminology

Like the three primary constants, script terminology is common to nearly all scripts, regardless of format. This consistency is useful because it communicates impor- tant information to the production team in a language they use daily. Script terminology can be broken down into the following four general categories:

Editing terms

Camera terms

Scene heading terms

Sound terms

EDITING TERMS

These terms note how a program will be edited. Like most other technical notations, they are usually capital- ized in the script. This format is used to make them stand out clearly for the director, producer, and editor.
