Money has a tendency to change in value over time. I’m not talking about the amount of money you have but rather the value. In other words, a constant quantity of money tends to be worth less as you hold onto it for longer periods of time. The two primary causes for this decrease in value are inflation and interest rates. A number of variables influence both inflation rates and interest rates, indirectly affecting the changes in value over time, but these two forces are the most direct causes, so they’re the ones you want to pay attention to the most.
