Block-level elements enable you to define the major sections of your Web page. You can define headings, several different paragraph types, lists, tables, data-input forms, and a few miscellaneous elements. However, in order to specify formatting changes within a text section, you must use the text-level elements discussed in the next chapter.

Finally, remember that many of the HTML 3.2 elements and attributes are deprecated in the newer HTML 4.0 specification, as indicated throughout the chapter. Though still supported by Netscape and Internet Explorer, deprecated elements or attributes in a document require the transitional DOCTYPE statement to validate as legal HTML 4.0.
