Since the time the first edition was published, we have received a tremendous amount of feedback on the original 15 patterns. The J2EE pattern community list server [JPCLS] has been very active and successful over the last few years with many brisk exchanges daily. During this time, we have also been involved in a number of significant large-scale J2EE architecture and development projects with our customers. The process of cultivating this experience and feedback into updating the original patterns and documenting the new ones has been laborious. We have specifically focused on the most requested elements of the feedback: support for recent versions of the J2EE technology specifications and web services.
