James Cameron is the Founder, Executive Director and Vice-Chairman of Climate Change Capital (CCC). CCC is an investment manager and adviser specialising in the opportunities that are generated by the global transition to the low-carbon economy. It advises and invests in companies which recognise that combating global warming is both a necessity and an economic opportunity. As of November 2008, it had $1.6 billion under management.
CCC has advised, raised and deployed capital for numerous low-carbon activities on a global basis. These include financing renewable energy installations in the United Kingdom; destroying industrial greenhouse gases in India and China; advice on the acquisition and divestiture strategies for private equity funds and the carbon-intensive industry in Europe and the US; and waste-to-energy projects in China and Hungary.
Previously, James was Counsel to international law firm, Baker & McKenzie, where he founded and led its Global Climate, Clean Energy and Emissions Trading Group.
As a barrister he has spent much of his career specialising in trade law, environmental law and human rights and been involved in a number of high profile cases ranging from Brent Spar to the arrest and extradition of General Pinochet.
