Chapter 10Graphical Operator Interfaces

The operator interface presented in the previous chapter provides the necessary functionality for early prototype use and has the important properties of ease of use and portability. However, even a prototype intended for demonstration outside of the immediate development lab needs to have an operator interface that takes advantage of graphical display capabilities.

The problems traditionally associated with graphically based operator interfaces are:

•  Lack of portability

•  Very difficult to program

•  Computationally very intensive
