3.1 Is there a typical contract structure and language?

Contract structure – Contracts can come in all shapes and sizes, but need a framework, like a container holding the contents together. This chapter is about the container and later chapters investigate the contents.

The language of contracts – As can be seen from the examples in this book, contracts need clear wording but don’t need complex language. Undue complexity can create confusion, which can breed uncertainty and dispute. If you are drafting, keep it simple, use short sentences, and build up the clauses as you go along.
