Optimistic?

In this book’s preface, I declared myself an optimist. And I certainly believe the world can forgo the consumption-driven ways that have fuelled growth until now. But the dreams that have been created along the way – that everyone can have it all – will be hard to dispel. I do not foresee the world’s rich countries voluntarily opting to end their current lifestyles and put growth into reverse. Even less can I envisage multinational companies willingly embracing restraint and moderation.
