If we are to move towards sustainable societies in Asia, we must consider how applying the rules for restricting resource usage can be done in the context of everyday life, both when working and relaxing. Chapter 5 outlined a framework of fiscal measures, land-use practices and new approaches to social organization with the potential to create sustainable national economies. Creating sustainable societies, however, would require similar measures to be extended to every area where governments play a role – from social policy and education to culture and even sport.
