Experience and Facial Expressions of Emotions

How much do we read into faces, and how much do we read out from them? We have a deep conviction that faces express emotions. How well can we tell what people are feeling by simply looking at their faces? People may be unaware that their inner feelings are reflected on their faces, in their voices, in their bodily postures, or in their choice of words. The ­purpose of this chapter is to discuss and elaborate the various aspects of emotions and social motives and their facial expressions and experiences.
