MODULATION TECHNIQUES

Over the years modulation methods have been devised for transmitting the required information as effectively as possible with the minimum amount of distortion. The primary factors to be considered are signal power, bandwidth, distortion and noise power. Ultimately, it is the ratio of signal power to noise power or output signal to noise ratio specified for the system which determines its performance. Consequently, it is not surprising to find a wide range of modulating techniques being used which appear to compete with one another under given practical conditions.
