PROBLEMS IN VIDEO RECORDING ON TAPE
At first, it might seem very easy to record colour television pictures on magnetic tape. After all, it is only necessary to feed the composite video signal into a tape deck, record it just like audio, and then replay the output of the tape deck into the antenna socket of a television receiver. However, there are many problems. The first problem is that the frequency range needed to record video is much wider than that for audio. A hifi audio signal has bandwidth, or frequency range, of around 20 kHz. But a colour television signal, as broadcast or relayed down a cable, has a bandwidth of around 5 MHz.
