THE CONSULTING PROCESS

Many well-known writers, among them Peter Block (1981) and Geoff Bellman (2001, 2002), have described a consulting process that may appear linear with specific steps. However, real life seldom follows such a rational, tidy process. The process for internal consultants is more organic and often messy. Some phases of the consulting process must be repeated several times, and others are skipped, only to be taken up again later in the cycle, as shown in figure II-1.
