I WAS WORKING FOR THREE DAYS with a CFO and his direct reports at a mid-sized health care organization. The organization had been a client of mine for a couple of years, one with whom I had experienced some success. In this particular case, I had been asked by the CEO to help the CFO and his team to strengthen their leadership and teamwork, a challenge I felt well qualified to meet. The CEO felt strongly that the offsite would be valuable for the CFO and his team—a gift to them, of sorts—and he believed I could lead it well.
