Industry-Standard Database Benchmarks

The best-known industry-standard database benchmarks are those developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council, a nonprofit corporation established to define transaction processing and database benchmarks and to provide objective, verifiable performance data to the industry.

Founded in 1988 by eight companies, the TPC has grown to about 30 members, including Sun. During the last 10 years the TPC has defined and released six database benchmarks, of which four, TPC-C, an OLTP benchmark, TPC-H and TPC-R, DSS benchmarks, and TPC-W, a web-based benchmark, are still current.
