Tuning DB2 for Solaris for OLTP Workloads

OLTP workloads vary considerably, making it difficult to establish a set of tuning rules with general applicability. But there are guidelines that should apply to most situations.

Successful tuning requires careful planning in the initial stages. Laying out the data is very important. Never forget, too, that applications have more potential to cause poor performance than does DB2 tuning. Once the applications have been tuned and the explain plans for your SQL seem reasonable, DB2 tuning can give you a small but welcome performance boost.
